Most digital marketing experts started in marketing. I started by surviving – and that difference changes everything.
My legal name is actually Michael. Growing up with a “boy’s name” meant constant teasing and having to prove I belonged everywhere I went. But you know what that taught me? How to fight back when people try to make you feel different or less than. That strength carried me through military marriage, single motherhood, corporate politics, and Fortune 500 consulting where I didn’t even realize I was mastering advanced digital marketing.
Fortune 500 Experience That Changes Everything
For years, I was THAT recruiter at companies like Robert Half Technology, Amazon, and Verisk Analytics. The one who could find impossible candidates, crush sales targets, and solve problems others couldn’t. At Robert Half, I rose to acting as interim division director when I left in 2018. When Verisk needed someone to integrate 5 companies during a massive merger, they called me. I hired 30+ people in 9 months while building systems that actually worked.
Plot twist: I was doing marketing automation, email campaigns, social media outreach, conversion optimization, and data analytics every single day – I just didn’t know it was called digital marketing!
