Consulting, explained
What does a small business consultant do?
A small business consultant helps you fix how the business runs, not just how it markets: clearer processes, the right tools, vendors who deliver, a hiring setup that works and someone keeping projects on track. We do the planning and the hands-on work, so recommendations don’t sit in a document.
We’ve done this for clients like Jeannie’s Cleaning and Sugar Bear, from managing system changes across the business to supporting an owner through a sale and onboarding the new owners.
Who is this for?
Owners who need a hands-on partner.
Businesses without an operations manager
Owners juggling vendors and projects
Businesses getting ready to sell or changing hands
What isn’t this?
Clear limits.
Legal, tax or accounting advice
Business brokerage or valuations
Full-time staffing

Getting ready to sell
How do you get a small business ready to sell?
Buyers pay more for a business that runs without the owner. Sale readiness is documenting and organizing everything so it can be handed over.

Frequently asked questions about small business consulting
How much does a small business consultant cost?
Our rates depend on the work: $125 an hour for project management and sale readiness, $175 for business consulting, and lower rates for admin and sales calls. Monthly plans start at $1,250.
What is a fractional project manager?
A part-time project manager who keeps your projects, vendors and updates on track without the cost of a full-time hire. Our Project Manager plan works that way.
How do I get my business ready to sell?
Document how the business runs, back up and organize your marketing assets, list every account and login, and plan the handover. We do that work, but we don’t value businesses or act as a broker.
Do you write SOPs?
Yes. We write standard operating procedures for the work your team does, in plain language they can follow.
Do you give legal or tax advice?
No. For contracts, taxes or the legal side of a sale, work with your attorney and accountant. We handle the operations, documentation and marketing side.
Can you help with hiring?
Yes. We set up hiring processes and can recruit for you. See recruiting and hiring.
Do you work with businesses outside Cincinnati?
Yes. Most consulting runs well over video calls, and we work with small businesses anywhere in the U.S.
Can I see examples of your work?
Yes. We’ve provided consulting and project management for Jeannie’s Cleaning, including support through a change of ownership, and business consulting for Sugar Bear. See every project on our projects page.
